Given current global geopolitical events, it is easy and understandable to feel overwhelmed, sad, angry, fearful and hopeless. These feelings are arising to alert us to our universal needs for peace, harmony, safety, love, understanding, community, agency and fairness, to name just a few.
We are being presented with many responses to choose from, most of which I’m noticing being unconscious, habitual and reactive, such as blame, judgment, finger-pointing and othering, none of which I believe contribute to the beautiful needs and values listed above.
Today, the response and choice I wish to spotlight is that of going within, and asking yourself the simple question of where you might be at war with another person, group or even with yourself.
(Y)our world will always reflect to us what we are vibrating. This means in order to see and experience peace on Earth, we need to cultivate peace within ourselves: in our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, actions and emotional states.
And I am not speaking about bypassing anything. You are allowed and encouraged to feel and process your anger. Anger is there to protect you, to alert you to needs of yours or others that are not being met, and to mobilise you into effective action to meet those needs. Blame, judgment, finger-pointing, etc., are not effective actions; they are a distraction to what will be truly helpful.
We are probably all familiar with statements such as “As within, so without” or “As above, so below”. These statements are not just wishful thinking or lofty platitudes. They are profound truths that govern our reality and experience.
This is an opportunity to go within and ask ourselves: Where am I at war? With whom am I at war? What’s more important to me, to be in alignment with my true, expanded, divine self or to hold onto anger, hate, grudges and resentment?
To create and live on a peaceful planet, we have to make peace within, make peace with the fact that people think, behave and have preferences differently than we do, and make peace with the fact that some people aren’t as kind as we’d like them to be.
Our real work is to become the antidote to the discord and affliction which we observe, experience and are triggered by in the outer world.
So today, start practicing by changing the way you are looking at what is happening out there, which will allow you to start changing the way you are feeling about it, which then enables you to start asking yourself, “Where in my life and consciousness am I holding onto and contributing toward the energy of war/violence/power-over?
The choice and vibration of both peace and war are available within each and every one of us. In every situation, we are given the opportunity to empower either peace or war.
During these unprecedented times, peace, love and harmony must come from somewhere; let it be you and me.
As we start choosing, cultivating and embodying peace in our inner experiences, lives and relationships, we start to make this a manifest outer reality for all.
With love.
